Powerful and easy to use

I've used this screwdriver for everything from hanging wooden blinds, installing child locks on the kitchen cabinet doors, and removing and replacing the switchplates when I paint a room to name a few. Its small and easy to use but is still powerful. This new lithium ion battery stays charged for months but the IXO can be stored on the charger without damaging the battery. I like the fact that it is always charged when I need to use it. I originally received the Skil iXO as a gift and liked it so much that I've purchased several more to give as gifts.

I love this little cordless drill. I bought it because it was small and lightweight and I've been very impressed with it's long-lasting charge and more than adequate torque for around the house. The grip is the perfect size for my hands. My husband has very large hands and loves his big drills, but doesn't mind using my little drill for small projects.
If you have children and/or shop at Ikea, buy this driver

This tool is the ultimate time saver! If you frequently assemble toys or have to put together flat packed furniture you will be very glad to buy this device. It comes with plenty of bits including hex so no more fiddling with Allen keys. It is compact enough to reach into plenty of corners a normal drill or screwdriver can't fit into. The charge lasts a long time and it has more than adequate power for daily tasks. Now it won't be useful for building a deck but in the few months I've had it I have:

put up a dozen blinds
assembled multiple toys
assembled 6 pieces of furniture (including a pottery barn table where the top required 16 bolts to attach to the pedestal)
and countless other small tasks

Every time I am so glad to have had this tool. If you see the negative Consumer Reports review, it's for the older model number. This one will not disappoint.
After a few years of use, I still use it every day.

This completely blows away any other small powered screwdriver I have ever used. Seriously. This is not junk like most.

I've been using the Ixo since it first came out. My partner on the job bought one, and we all made fun of him for it. "Isn't that cute!" We said.

Well then I watched him drive a self-tapping screw with no pilot hole into pretty heavy sheet metal with it. I had to try it out myself.

I wound up stealing his from him as often as I could, because carrying an 18 Volt Dewalt drill around to drive little screws is rather stupid. (low voltage electrical work)

You used to be able to find these for $40 at Home Depot, and sometimes $30 on sale. I bought mine about 2 years ago for $40. I've used it almost every work day since then.

When using for heavy-duty professional work, expect to have to charge it regularly. It will drive wood screws on a fresh charge, but not for very long. If its something that would be difficult to turn by hand, it will be difficult to turn with the Ixo. That's my way of judging whether to use this or break out the big drill.

It can be a serious time saver in a lot of ways, though. Removing/reinstalling screws that would require you to twist a driver a million times are now solved by just pushing the button.

My complaints - wish it had a clutch, but no way on something so cheap and small. Use your wrist as the clutch. When you learn to stop at the right time, you stop stripping screws.
When the battery is low, and you half-squeeze the trigger, the light doesn't turn on. Instead it lights up the out-of-gas light. This is frustrating when you're in a pinch and you just need to drive a couple more screws before putting it on the charger. However it does turn on once you push the trigger all the way. This is especially frustrating if you're using it heavily on the job, as it thinks the battery is done way too early.

So keep charging it if you're using it a lot. If not, it stays charged for a long time and works fine when you need it.

If someone stole mine or I lost it, I'd buy another one for sure.

This little Skil is perfect. Good torque. Quick. Fits just right in the hand. Charge lasts a long time while using and would fit just fine in tight spaces. Comes in a good sized carrying case and a small set of bits.

I've had this drill for about a year, and have been very happy with it. The torque settings are pretty much standard, bit with images instead of numbers. It is powerful enough for everything I've thrown at it, seems well made and sturdy, and battery life is not bad at all. It has low speed low torque through low speed high/fixed torque and high speed for drilling. It fits comfortably in the hand. The drill bit holder on the side is pretty hard to get the bit out of, and I don't really use it as a result. Great tool, would buy again.

After using this for about seven years, my old version of this drill died only becuase I drilled through my wrought iron fence which meant constant use for several minutes at a time while I put about 50 lbs of weight on it in 100 degree F heat in the sun!! What I'm saying is this drill was not made for the conditions I put it in. I sill worked for a year, though it would smell burnt becuase I had cooked the insulation.

Don't let the other reviewers who claim the battery will die in a few years fool you. As with any NiCad battery, the key to long life is simple: fully charge, then disconnect from charger. Use the drill till the battery is dead or almost dead before recharge (don't use it shortly, then put it back on charger). If you do so, it will last almost indefinitely. My battery was good as new after 7 years.

I'm going to buy a new one now and will now use my corded drill for super heavy duty work. Use it for what it's made for - light to medium duty.

I got this drill from Lowe's for $35.00. It is about the same price at other places. Why is the advertisement here saying it is in the $150 range normally and that they are saving you $113? Also, you have to add in the (sometimes really steep) price of shipping! Something smells here!

it's exactly what i was looking for and there are a couple of things other consumers need to know ... 1. the plug- in charger is small, so keep an eye out for it.....it plugs into the back of the handle...2. this drill has NO charger indicator anywhere on it, so when you plug it in, be mindful of how long you've had it on the charger and DO NOT keep it plugged in constantly or you'll kill the battery fast. other than that, it's very stable, very well constructed and it CAN handle some heavy work!! try 1/2 inch steel with a titanium drill bit...chewed thru it like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet!! i'm very happy with this product and for what it lacks in lights, it makes up for in raw power. all the of "scrunity reviews" that a lot of people have submitted thus far for what it can and can't do?...listen, i've been a tradesman for going on 20 years and have toolboxes taller than anyone reading this and i can assure you, if this product was worthless, i would most definitely give it the heave. if you're on a budget or are looking for a good replacement for your old beat up 12-volt, this is a great start and it WILL get the job done, but be mindful, EVERY portable tool has it's limitations..as does DeWalt, Makita, Craftsman, Snap-On, Mac or any other toolmaker's products. use the right tool for the right job and you'll be amazed at just how long it will last. overall, great product in an economical package! now go buy some stuff!!

I bought this and have needed It 4 times already In 4 weeks just putting different things up and the smart technology really works. Sweet.
And what a great price! Unless I happened to catch a sale or deal of the day! The only thing at all. It does not have a carrying case! They really should have for this drill. It still on the original charge I gave It over 4 weeks ago, so the charge Is sure lasting. It fits well In your hand and Into tight side spaces(For the screw)as well. The 111 piece set I got at local True value on sale does have a case and have used it twice too now. So for anyone that wants a GREAT drill. I mean It's a Black & Decker! I can't reccomend enough compared to the 2 I've had to borrow before my purchase. This Is so Inexpensive. Like I said sweet deal. It does come with your standard flat head and philips on the other side that does come attached to It. So they will work for a lot. The smart technology Is great.

Amazon lists this set as TI118 but on the box I received was model TI18. No complaints here though, the case is slighty more rectangular but smaller. One nice feature I didnt expect were 3 hex slots on the bit holder, very convenient you can throw in a few driver bits along with the drill bits. More importantly the bits are Made in USA, to be more specific it says "Fabricated in USA of Austrian Steel". On those two points, I would recommend this set over others for the convenience and quality.
